how do statin drugs prevent dementia?

some say that statins own anti-inflammatory characteristics - is this like aspirin? No one really know yet. Statins clearly affect cholesterol synthesis, but they also enjoy anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and gene-expression modulation properties. The pleiotrophic properties of statins are only setting up to be recognized, and will probably front to their use in alien areas over the next decade.
Dementia is cause by a build up of plaque (sp?) in the brain. From what I recognize, it is believed that the build up itself is cholosteral. Since high cholosteral is prevented by statins, statins prevent dementia.
